Run payroll in Gusto with Stafferin's export

Gusto's Smart Import reads your spreadsheet and matches the columns for you — no reformatting needed. For most companies this is genuinely: download from Stafferin, drag into Gusto, run.

Step-by-step

1

Export the hours from Stafferin

In Stafferin: Payroll → Payroll Export → choose the pay period → Download CSV. No special settings needed — Gusto figures the columns out in the next step.

2

Start a payroll run in Gusto

In Gusto click Pay → Run payroll and pick the payroll you're running. Scroll to the employee hours table.

3

Click "Import payroll data" and drop the file

Above the Actions column, click Import payroll data, then Upload (or drag the Stafferin file into the box).

Let Smart Import match the columns

Gusto auto-detects which column is the employee, which is regular hours, which is overtime, etc. Glance at the matches it suggests and confirm. If anything looks off, fix that one dropdown — the rest are already done.

ⓘ
Gusto matches by employee name. If a name in Stafferin doesn't match Gusto exactly (e.g. "Mike" vs "Michael"), Gusto flags it so you can pick the right person — quick to fix.
5

Review & submit

The hours drop into the payroll grid. Check the totals, then continue Gusto's normal Submit payroll. Gusto handles the calculations, taxes and direct deposit.

✅
Done. Because Smart Import re-matches every time, you don't even need a saved template — export and upload whenever payday comes around.
